Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is located between Africa, the Southern Ocean, Asia and Australia.  Even though it is only the third largest ocean, it is 5.5 times the size of the United States!  This ocean is home to the blue whale, which we will be learning about this week.

The Great White Shark

We will be learning about the Great White Shark.  It is one of the many types of sharks found in the Atlantic.  This shark  is found along the coastlines of South Africa, most of South America and the east coast of the United States. They can also be found in other parts of the Pacific Ocean.  The Great White is a carnivore, unlike the sea turtles found in the Pacific Ocean.

Atlantic Ocean

The Atlantic Ocean borders five of the six continents in the world.  As you can see from the map above this oceans touches North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Antarctica! Although the Atlantic is quite large, it is the second largest ocean when compared to the Pacific Ocean!

Living in the deep blue sea- Facts about Sea Turtles


Sea turtles are large reptiles that are found in the Pacific Ocean as well as other parts of the world.

 Habitat: shallow, coastal waters of warm and temperate seas

Types of turtles: Loggerhead (commonly found in the Pacific Ocean), Green, Leatherback, and Flatback to name a few.

 What do they eat?: most sea turtles are carnivores (a meat eater), while the Green turtle is a herbivore(veggie eater).

The Five Oceans of the world

There are five major oceans located around the world.  The Pacific Ocean is the largest ocean of them all with a total of 155,557,000 sq km!  The second largest ocean is the Atlantic Ocean, which is the ocean that borders our state, Rhode Island.  The third largest ocean is the Indian Ocean and the fourth is the Southern ocean.  The Artic Ocean is the smallest ocean of them all!
